New things come in and out of the studio all time. We all know that I'm a fabric hoarder and have a new shipment of fabric arrive at least once a week. But this time, these new pretties are here to stay!
Since I moved into a new studio (I switch rooms with my little's playroom, and we both got more room out of it!) I've slowly been adding needed things and spaces. Like a great place to take pictures, where I don't have to take it down when I'm finished!
There's a HUGE closet in my studio, and it doesn't work well as a true closet since it's so deep. Things would just get piled up and lost. First it was home to Fred. I wonderful 6 needle embroidery machine belonging to my loverly business friend Shauna at KAdorable Bowtique. But now that the military is taking her away, I've re-done the space to have be a permanent photo studio!
Here's the before ...
First thing to go were the doors, totally unneeded and blocked off the space!
The old set up was a simple curtain rod with a burlap backdrop hanging and my DIY floor drop. Very simple and functional. But I would have to move things around to use it since I also used that wall space for the ironing board. It got old very quickly!
Using the same curtain rod and floor drop I turning that huge close into a great space! That wasn't the end of the renovation though. I took advantage of a great sale for back drops at Lemon Drop Stop. I've been oogling at these backdrop for YEARS! I never thought they would make a huge different but they SO did!
I purchased an everyday, Halloween, and Christmas backdrop ....
I'm hoping that I can take advantage of a Christmas sale to get some of the spring holiday back drops!
Next was the mannequin. My little half body hanging ones are great, but since they're only half of a body the clothes still hang on them in a weird way or I have to pinch the back to make the look right. But on a full mannequin they hang perfectly!
And when edited and cropped the clothes are the only thing that stands out!
The last thing to figure out is lighting. Right now there's great natural light. But as the sun sets or the storm clouds come in it gets a little "yellow". Definitely my next purchase is lighting and soft box. The question is ... camera flash and soft box or stand alone???
